The library of the Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB) provides documental support to the research activities developed in the centre. It is also a library opened to everyone interested in botany and related subjects. In 1998 the library merged with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) Libraries Network.

The collection consists of more than 8,500 monographs, about 1,400 serial titles, maps and microfiches. The most relevant subjects are Mediterranean Flora, Ecology, Landscape Gardening and Conservation.

The library also has an important collection of rare books. Among them is the Salvador’s collection. These books were the personal library of the Salvador family, an important lineage of chemists from Barcelona. They carried out their collector’s activity from the beginning of the 17th to mid 19th centuries. Nowadays, the Salvador library is preserved together with the rest of the cabinet as part of the Salvador Museum.
