Researchers training and academic teaching

One of the main goals at the Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB) is training researchers. Since 1992 the IBB is doing so in different levels, participating in Doctorate and Master programmes, mostly with the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) students, having contributed in the training of lots of doctorands, masterands and graduates.

Lots of the researchers at the IBB collaborate with curriculum of some subjects related to Botany, Plant Biosystematics or Biodiversity Management and other fields at the Biology and Pharmacy degrees.

We also participate in Master and Degree Works subjects, and directing Doctoral Theses in Biology, Environmental Biology, Ambiental Sciences, Pharmacy and Sea Sciences degrees from the UB, UAB and the University of Girona (UdG). We also participate in masters or doctorate programmes at the UB: Biodiversity, Environmental Agrobiology, Genetics and Genomics, Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management and at the UAB: Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management. We are open to participate in other master or doctorate programmes related to the research fields studied at the IBB.

Our implication is usually at a theoretical-practical level, teaching at the labs where researches learn Molecular Biology techniques (PCR, sequencing, DNA cloning, AFLPs or microsatellites, and others), cytogenetics, (classic cariology, fluorescent in situ hybridization) and Bioinformatics Analysis; and at the herbarium, where they are taught to manage herbarium sheets botanical collections and analyse their data considering the study field and its conservation status. .

Apart from masters and doctorate students, international researchers do predoctoral or postdoctoral research stages. We also receive Erasmus Mundus (postgraduate), Erasmus+ (pregraduate) or EMBO (postgraduate) programme students and researchers, that want to do a stage at our institution. Among others, we’ve had students and researchers from: Austria, Algeria, Argentina, France, India, Iran, Italy, Poland, Morocco, Pakistan, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine and China.

If you want to do a doctoral these with us, lots of the researches at the IBB are interested in endorsing candidates for the next public scholarship FPU and FI calls. Doctoral scholarships related to research projects are also possible. Regarding TFG, TFM and curricular and extracurricular internships, we have agreements with UB, UAB and UdG to receive students at our institution, and if necessary, it can be expanded to other universities or institutions. If you want to do a stage through Erasmus+ programme check the demanded requirements and the needed documentation. We are very interested into receiving researchers from the UE’s Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions programme.
