Hieraciotheca Gallica et Hispanica

The Hieraciotheca Gallica et Hispanica herbarium of Casimir Arvet-Touvet (1841-1913) and Marie Clément Gaston Gautier (1841-1911) consists of 20 folders containing 1,643 species from France and 427 species from Spain of the genus Hieracium. In the early twentieth century, 10 shipments from this collection were made to distribute to various institutions. Currently we find this collection in the herbaria of Berlin (B), Barcelona (BC), Geneva (G), Grenoble (GR), Kew (K), Leiden (L), St. Petersburg (LE), Paris (P), Turin (TO) and Vienna (W). The BC consignment, preserved in the herbarium of the Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB), is that their authors were delivered to the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts (RACAB) in gratitude for the collaborations of Frederic Trèmols, one of the most eminent members in the formation of this exsicc

Throughout all the collection, labels are printed and maintain a highly uniform structure, hence, in 2012 they were digitized applying an optical character recognition (OCR) system. Afterwards, the resulting text automatically became a tabulated file. A small number of labels—that was obscure or intelligible—was manually transcribed. Finally, we manually reviewed all records. This work produced 2,108 computerized records, all searchable in the database, and representing the entire collection.
