Personal Collections

The personal collections kept at the Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB) arise from the interest that Pius Font i Quer to know both the Catalan flora and the botanical history of Catalonia, which led him to maintain contact with various local botanists. The close contact that he had with some botanists made them be willing to donate their archives and herbaria to the institution that he had founded (the IBB). This is the case of the personal collections of Joan Cadevall i Diars (1846–1921), Josep Cuatrecasas Arumí (1903–1996) and Carlos Pau Español (1857-1937). These collections were brought together by Pius Font i Quer due to the close relationship these authors maintained with the IBB and also because of their collaboration in the formation of the herbarium collections that the IBB currently gpreserves. Font i Quer’s contacts, in addition, made possible to locate the place where the Salvador collection had been abandoned and to recover it in 1923, together with the archive collection, as well as incorporating the personal collection of Frederic Trèmols i Borrel (1831-1900).
