The IBB researcher Valentí Rull in the Stanford ranking of top-cited world’s scientists

The Stanford ranking of top-cited scientists uses the c-score to rank the top 100,000 scientists (of the ~8 million estimated worldwide) and those situated in a ≤2% percentile in the respective research subfields. The c-score differs from the h-index in that it excludes self-citation and considers the involvement of each author in their papers (first/only/last authorship), thus minimizing fake/predatory authorship. This ranking, which is updated every year, is based on the Scopus database and is presented in two versions, the career-long version and the single-year version, which accounts for the last evaluated year.

The IBB researcher Valentí Rull (VR) appears in both versions of the Stanford ranking since its launching (2019), always in outstanding positions. In the last update (4 October 2023), VR lies within the first quartile of the ranking (career-long version) and occupies the 152th position of the 21,102 world’s paleontologists (0.7% rank percentile). In the single-year version (2022), VR lies on the same quartile and is placed in the position 98 of his subfield (0.5%). If we consider the ranking by countries, VR is within the top 16% of the Spanish scientists who appear in the Stanford ranking, and the first of the few Spanish paleontologists listed in it (5 for the career-long and 7 for the single-year versions). In the specialty of palynology, VR is within the top-15 (career-long) and top-10 (single year) world’s palynologists listed in the paleontology subfield.
