The Botanical Institute of Barcelona presents at a congress in Ecuador

The V Congreso Ecuatoriano de Mastozoología, III Congreso Nacional de Manejo de Vida Silvestre y I Congreso Ecuatoriano de Centros de Rescate, Zoológicos, Acuarios y Afines took place in Samborondón (Guayas Province, Ecuador) from 19th to 21st October. This triple congress, jointly organised by the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES), was attended by a large number of local researchers, but also from the rest of Latin America. Dr. Jordi López-Pujol has represented the Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB) in the III Congreso Nacional de Manejo de Vida Silvestre, with a very active participation (a 45-minute masterful lecture within the symposium on Invasive Exotic Species organised by Dr. Ileana Herrera), two 15-minute oral communications, and eight posters) which are shown below:

Dr. Jordi López-Pujol during his masterful lecture Catalogación de la flora alóctona en el NO de la cuenca Mediterránea: esfuerzos recientes.

Apart from the participation in the congress, Dr. Jordi López-Pujol held several meetings to reinforce the role of the IBB (mainly through Xenoplants, which brings together different researchers interested in allochthonous species) in botanical studies in Ecuador. With Dr. Ileana Herrera, UEES researcher and leading expert on the genus Kalanchoe in Latin America, the participation of Xenoplants in the elaboration of the next catalogue of the allochthonous flora of Ecuador (from which she is the coordinator) was concretised, while with the vice-rector of research at UEES, Fernando Espinoza, possible ways of collaboration between this university and the IBB were discussed.
