PhD position in angiosperm macroevolution
Fully funded PhD position for 4 years to work on evolution of Angiosperms by using their fossil record.
Gross annual salary 24,600 – 30,200 euros.
RESEARCH
PhD contract to analyse the biotic and abiotic factors that influenced the rise of flowering plant (Angiosperms) diversification, focusing in the co-diversification with pollinating insects.
Engage in activities spanning fossil record review, paleoecology, phylogenetics, and bioinformatics. Developing new skills in data analysis and writing research results.
YOUR PROFILE
MSc in Evolutionary biology, Biodiversity (ideally in Botany), or Palaeontology.
Good communication and teamwork skills, who can work independently and in goal-oriented manner, enthusiasm and engagement. Excellent written and oral English.
Valuable mathematical and analytical skills, experience with Bayesian multivariate birth-death (MBD) models to study evolutionary processes, or Ecological Niche Modelling, publications and knowledge on geology or fossil record.
ENVIRONMENT
The applicant will be based at the Institut Botànic de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain), but it is anticipated research stays at different international institutions.
The IBB is an international recognized institution for its research in plant and insect-plant science, with a collaborative interdisciplinary work between botanists and entomologists.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Academic and/or scientific-technical career of the candidate (50 points).
Suitability of the candidate for the research activities to be carried out (50 points).
