Dr. Valentí Rull among the 2% world’s most cited scientists according to the Stanford ranking

Stanford University has recently published an update of the list of the top 2% most widely cited scientists in different disciplines, the World’s Top 2% Scientists. This ranking, considered the most prestigious worldwide, is based on the bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database and includes more than 160,000 researchers from the more than 8 million scientists considered to be active worldwide, with 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields taken into account. The database is available here.

Valentí Rull, scientific researcher of the Botanic Institute of Barcelona, is listed in this World’s Top 2% Scientists, specifically within the top 0.5 %, considering all fields and subfields of research. In the specialty of palaeontology, Rull is the number 173 of a total of 19.448 world’s researchers, and occupies the 1st position within Spain. According to the Stanford survey, Rull is within the top 12 palynologists of the world and the first of Spain.

Currently, the work of VR focuses: 1) biotic responses to climate change; 2) climate-vegetation-human feedbacks and synergies; 3) Quaternary ecology, evolution and biogeography; 4) the origin of Neotropical biodiversity and endemism; 5) the human settlement of remote islands; 6) the anthropization of mountain landscapes; 7) the fossil record of Cannabis, and 8) the “Anthropocene” epoch. The main regions of study are: 1) the Orinoco lowlands and delta; 2) the Guiana region; 3) the tropical Andes; 4) the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt; 5) the Pyrenees; 6) the Azores Islands; and 7) Easter island.
